Every year at the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, there is a competition open to all of its members called the
Concerto Competition. The winner of this competition is given the oppurtunity to play an entire concerto in the next subscription season. The last two weeks, this competition took place at Davies Symphony Hall.
This year I decided to enter because I had a really amazing, exciting, and invigorating piece that I had prepared. From the preliminary round to the finals, I grew so much as a cellist. I worked on musciality, stamina and tone a lot. Playing a concerto is not an easy feat, as it requires energy, especially for the piece that I chose.
I am extremely happy to announce that I won this year's Concerto Competition with Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1!!! It was a really great competition and I am really excited to be able to play next year with the Youth Orchestra. Hooray!
